Hey, congrats on getting a new-to-you Honda Civic! It’s a great car with excellent fuel efficiency. But it’s definitely not going to match a Type R in terms of performance, of course. Then again, not many cars really can.
There are tons of 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback body kits on the market. But to make that car look like a Civic Type R is going to require a lot of money. Just getting your bumpers replaced from a company like CARiD will cost you a couple of thousand bucks, and that doesn’t even get you 10 percent there.
If you buy all of the best parts you can find and get them professionally painted, you’ll end up spending at least $10k+. And trying to upgrade and tune-up that Civic hatchback to match the Type R’s overwhelming performance would cost even more.
All told, you’re better off buying a used 2017 Honda Civic Type R than trying to mod up a hatchback Civic to look and drive like the real deal. It would probably cost less and would look better too.
As for performance, the Honda Civic Type R was precision-engineered by a team of professional designers with all sorts of gadgetry and wind tunnels. Parts replicating the real parts might get close, but they often include creative liberties and different materials that negate the aerodynamics in some way.
That’s of course not to say you shouldn’t modify your Honda Civic Hatchback. Cars are meant to be enjoyed, after all, and as long as you’re doing it safely that’s perfectly fine. But do so with the end goal of making your car more appealing to you. You simply aren’t going to turn a Honda Civic Hatchback into a Honda Civic Type R.
