Should I be added as a driver to my parents' auto policy so I can have lower rates in the future?
I am away at college. I don't have a car yet, and I probably won't get one until I'm done with school in a few years. Will waiting to get a car make my insurance expensive? Should I be listed on my parents' policy in the meantime?

policy. If you don’t need to get your own car just yet, being listed on your parents’ policy is a good option. Some carriers will use the time spent on your parents’ policy and put it towards your own policy when the time comes.

, for example, has a “”spin-off policy”” where they can apply this discount for children of existing customers. See if your parents’ insurer has something similar. Insurance history builds over time, and some companies only need you to have six months of prior insurance to offer you additional savings.”
