Should I always file a homeowner's insurance claim?

My dishwasher leaked and destroyed a significant portion of the floor and subfloor. However, the price to fix it isn't all that expensive. Should I always file a claim?

“That can be frustrating!
Submitting a claim all depends on how much the cost of repairs is and whether you can afford them. If the repairs cause financial hardship, you should submit a claim.
Be aware that if you’re a bit overzealous on how many claims you have in a short period, you can risk having your insurance canceled. You may also see a huge uptick in your monthly or yearly premium.
That said, you can always shop around if your rate increases. Insurance companies change rates often and don’t rate policies the same. By shopping around, you likely can find a lower rate elsewhere.
