Is the Hyundai powertrain warranty transferable?

So I’m buying a Hyundai Sonata from someone who has only had the car for around six years. Will their powertrain warranty transfer over to me?

The short answer is yes, the Hyundai powertrain warranty can usually be transferred from one car owner to another. However, there are a few limitations to this transfer.
When you buy a Hyundai, you receive multiple different types of warranty coverage. One of these is the powertrain warranty, which lasts until:
  • You’ve driven the car for 60,000 miles, or
  • You’ve owned the car for 10 years.
If you want to transfer your powertrain warranty over to someone else, you’ll need to do so before either of these thresholds has been reached. You also need to make sure the warranty hasn’t been voided in some other way, such as making third-party replacements to the parts.
The new owner of the Hyundai and the powertrain warranty will unfortunately have a shorter span of coverage. Their warranty will last for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.
