Believe it or not, exactly how the Dodge Durango is classified depends on the model year you’re looking at. The first generation of Durangos—produced between 1998 and 2003—were classified as midsize SUVs.
The second generation Durango was launched in 2004 and was 7 in (180 mm) longer, 2 in (51 mm) wider, and 3 in (76 mm) taller than the previous model, making it a full-size SUV. It also offered a third-row bench with three seats, giving it an eight-seat capacity.
The third generation was launched in 2011 and persists through this day. It still features a third row of seats but is no longer built on a truck’s platform. It is considered a full-size crossover SUV.
