I’ve been looking into purchasing a more fuel-efficient hybrid or electric car such as the Chevy Volt, but I’ve noticed that the configuration of this model is somewhat unique. Is the Chevy Volt a hybrid or is it an electric car?

Chevy
Volt is a plug-in hybrid model, meaning it has both a battery-powered electric motor and a gas-powered engine. So technically, it is both a hybrid and electric car.Features of the Chevy Volt include:
- A gas-powered engine that takes over once your battery dips below a certain threshold.
- Regenerative braking (your battery charges every time you brake or slow down!)
At a time when the marketplace for fuel-efficient hybrid and electric vehicles was exploding, Chevrolet created the Volt sedan in an effort to offer the efficiency of an electric car with the convenience of a traditional engine.
However, citing various reasons such as production costs and a decline in sedan sales overall, General Motors ended production of the Chevy Volt in 2019. The model however remains popular on the used vehicle market.
