Is texting while driving a moving violation?

My state recently passed a texting while driving law, and I have a rather bad habit of doing just that. I’m worried that if I’m caught, I’m going to see a huge increase in my car insurance rates—but only if it’s a moving violation, right? Is texting and driving considered a moving violation?

It depends. Some states consider texting while driving a moving violation while other states see it as a traffic infraction. If the latter is the case, texting and driving won’t add any points to your license nor will it go on your record.
For example, Illinois considers texting while driving a moving violation that adds points to your license and can certainly increase your
car insurance
rates. However, California and Florida just issue a ticket and a fine that don’t impact your permanent record or increase your car insurance rate.
Avoid texting and driving to avoid a ticket. But if you have a moment of weakness and you’re caught, you may find that your car insurance rates increase. Before you pay too much money for a new policy, consider using the
