Is termite damage covered by my home insurance?

I just bought my first home and the first thing I did was fumigate my house to address the termite damage in my attic. Will my insurance cover termite damage if they come back in the future?

Congratulations on becoming a new homeowner! Don’t let your microscopic house guests dampen your excitement. Termites are extremely common, accounting for billions of dollars in damages to American homes every year. You’re not alone.
Unfortunately, because
homeowners insurance
policies are designed to cover accidental and sudden damages, most termite damage is not covered by insurance. Termites can spend years burrowing into your wood before they’re identified, which is the actual opposite of sudden.
There are, however, scenarios that are covered. For example, if termites were to chew through your wiring and cause a fire, it’s possible the resulting damage could be covered—but it all depends on your particular policy.
If you have insurance and want to know exactly where you stand, you should contact your provider to see what may or may not be covered.
And if you want to ensure you’re not overpaying for the coverage you have, you should use
