Is Tennessee a no-fault state?

I was driving through Tennessee, and I got into a little bit of an accident. No one was injured, thank goodness. However, there was some damage to my car and the other person’s car. Is Tennessee a no-fault state when it comes to accidents?

First and foremost, I’m glad to hear that no one was injured!
Tennessee is not a no-fault state. It’s an at-fault state. This means that whoever is at fault for the accident will be held liable to pay for all damages and injuries.
Remember, anytime you get into an accident, you must do the following:
  • Call the police
  • Document as much as you can about the accident in writing and with pictures
  • Call your insurance to alert them of the accident
  • File an insurance claim
Your insurance agent can help walk you through who is responsible for paying what and answer any questions you may have. Try to communicate with them as much as possible via text or email so you have a record of your conversations.
