I was pulled over for speeding on the New Jersey Turnpike and my ticket included a citation for reckless driving. Is reckless driving considered a misdemeanor in NJ?

I’m so sorry to hear about your situation. Although reckless driving in New Jersey is treated as a crime, a reckless driving conviction will not show up on your criminal record the way a misdemeanor would. Instead, a reckless driving charge will only show up on your driving record.
That being said, reckless driving is still a serious citation. A first-time conviction for reckless driving holds the following consequences:
Five points on your driver’s license
A fine between $50 and $200
Up to 90 days suspension of your driver’s license
Up to 60 days in jail
Points on your New Jersey driver’s license will remain there indefinitely, but if you stay violation-free for one year, you’ll have the opportunity to reduce your points by taking a safe driving course.
