Is reckless driving a misdemeanor in Nevada?

I have a 2019 Dodge Challenger and I like to open it up a bit when I’m on the freeway near Las Vegas. I always use apps like Waze to make sure there are no speed traps, but I’m worried about getting a reckless driving charge. If I were to get a reckless driving charge in Nevada, is it a misdemeanor or a felony?

While
speeding
is never a good idea, knowing the law can prevent major issues. In Nevada, reckless driving is a misdemeanor if it causes no injuries or fatalities. It becomes a felony if it results in the death or injury of another motorist or if you fail to stop for law enforcement.
If you’re caught and convicted of misdemeanor reckless driving in Nevada, the penalties are as follows:
  • A fine of between $250 and $1,000
  • Up to 6 months in jail
  • 8 demerit points on your driving record
  • Suspension of your license if the 8 demerit points result in 12 or more total demerit points
Reckless driving as a result of drag racing adds:
  • 50 to 99 hours of community service
  • Mandatory license suspension for no less than 6 months but no more than 2 years
  • Impounding of vehicle for up to 15 days
Each subsequent charge of reckless driving can result in increased penalties, including a higher fine of between $1,000 and $1,500.
If your reckless driving causes an injury or fatality or you don’t stop for police, it’s considered a Class B felony. This may result in:
  • A fine of $2,000 to $5,000
  • A prison sentence of up to 6 years
With any of these infractions, you may also find that your car insurance rates go up exponentially. However, you may be able to offset the increase in price by shopping around for the best deals with the
