Lane splitting is illegal in Alaska. However, there are some nuances when it comes to lane splitting—also known as lane filtering.
Lane splitting describes when motorcycles move in and out of traffic when it’s stopped or slowed considerably. Since motorcycles are small and maneuverable, there is often plenty of space for them to move between cars when traffic is stopped.
However, in many states—including Alaska—lane splitting is illegal because it’s incredibly risky.
