Is it normal to be asked about your credit history when filing a renters insurance claim?
"I called my insurance company to make a claim on my renters policy after my apartment was broken into. The insurance adjuster started asking questions about my credit history, wanting to know if I'm behind on my rent and loans. Is it common to be asked about your credit history in this kind of situation? How is it relevant?

“Each insurance company can require an adjuster to ask different questions and follow different guidelines when taking down a claim report. It is the insurance company’s right and obligation to investigate every claim.
That being said, inquiring about your credit history is not standard procedure. This could be the investigator’s way of trying to uncover a fraudulent situation if they’ve noticed something suspicious.
I suggest getting in touch with the carrier’s claims department and expressing your concerns. These questions seem unusually invasive to me as well.
