Is it illegal to drive barefoot in Ohio?

The other day, I stepped in a massive puddle and my shoes were soaked. I decided to take my shoes off for the drive home. Did I break the law? Can I drive barefoot in Ohio?

Nothing worse than wet shoes! You didn’t break the law, as it’s not illegal to drive barefoot in
Ohio
.
Even though there is no law prohibiting driving barefoot, there are some reasons to reconsider your decision to slip the shoes off:
  • Shoes can provide greater grip than bare feet, especially compared to wet bare feet.
  • When you take off your shoes while driving, they could interfere with the movements of the gas and brake pedals.
  • While not illegal, driving barefoot could negatively affect a car insurance claim. Your insurance provider could claim negligence and that you violated Ohio’s Section
    4511.202
code: Operation without being in reasonable control of the vehicle.
