Is I-90 a toll road in Massachusetts?

I’m driving along I-90 in Massachusetts to visit my parents in a couple of weeks, but I’ve never driven this route before. Is I-90 a toll road, and do I need cash?

Yes, I-90 is a toll road in Massachusetts. Also called the Massachusetts Turnpike, the toll road begins near Logan International Airport at the eastern end of Boston and becomes part of the New York State Thruway at the Berkshire Connector in Canaan, New York.
Electronic toll collection took the place of cash payments on the Turnpike in 1998. Drivers with a transponder installed on the inner windshield will have funds withdrawn automatically.
For most single-family vehicles, the rates start at:
  • MASS E-ZPass: $7.45
  • E-ZPass: $9.35
  • Cash/AET: $13.55
However, the total toll fee will depend on the distance traveled.
Toll roads are a great way to save time during rush hour, but the fees can add up. If you want to save money elsewhere, use the
