Is hiring a driving instructor worth it?

My friend’s parents are getting her private driving instructor lessons. I got my learner’s permit recently, too, but my mom and dad are teaching me. Without saying too much, it’s already off to a rocky start and I’m thinking about getting professional driving lessons. Is hiring a driving instructor worth it?

Way to go on getting your learner’s permit! While I’m sure your parents are doing the best they can, hiring a professional driving instructor is sometimes the best option. Here are a few benefits:
  • Less risk to your car: If your parents are particularly worried about damage to their vehicle, taking private lessons with an instructor could lend them peace of mind. Most driving instructors have a vehicle students can use for lessons.
  • Knowledge: Driving instructors are trained to calmly and patiently train students and cover a wide range of important driving topics.
  • Dedication: Face it—life is hectic. You or your parents might consistently cancel and delay practices. A driving instructor will be fully committed to teaching you how to drive, which will shorten the span of time it takes before you are prepared for your driver’s license exam.
