Is driving over 100 mph a felony in California?

I live in California and just got a ticket for going 110 mph. I’m a little worried that this is a felony. Is driving over 100 mph a felony in California?

Thanks for the question! Per California’s Vehicle Code 22348(b), a driver who drives their vehicle on a highway at a speed over 100 mph will be committing an infraction.
Under California law, this means that the offender will not be subjected to jail time. In general, speeding is not a felony unless it includes other violations, like reckless driving.
That said, speeding over 100 mph in California can lead to:
  • Fines of up to $1000
  • Two points added to the offender’s license
  • Suspension of driver’s license
