Is a Prius an electric car or a hybrid?
It’s very important to my husband that our next vehicle be an all electric vehicle. I was fine with that, because I’ve always liked the look of the Prius. He says the Prius isn’t a fully electric car, that it’s a hybrid. Is a Prius an electric car or a hybrid?

Great question! Toyota’s Prius models are only hybrids right now. Prius does not have a fully electric option. Although Prius is only hybrids right now, fans are hopeful that they will eventually add a fully electric option.

is considered a hybrid because it has two “engines.” A Prius has a battery pack that powers an electric motor, working in tandem with it’s second source of power, the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). By having these two power systems working together, your Prius can get much better gas mileage.However, having the ICE immediately disqualifies the Prius from being considered a fully electric vehicle. Electric vehicles run only on electricity. This electricity is stored in their battery packs which then powers the electric motor that turns the wheels.
Prius has
several models of vehicle
, like their original hybrid model or a newer plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). They have yet to go fully electric, although fans are pushing for them to do so. No matter whether you drive a hybrid or fully electric car, you need affordable insurance.
