If my Nissan 370Z was hit by another motorist, will their insurance company give me the check or give it to the repair shop?

I was in an accident in my Nissan 370Z when I was hit by a driver not paying attention. It did extensive damage to my vehicle. However, I want to get some estimates rather than use the other driver's repair shop. I currently own the vehicle. Will their insurance give me the check so I can choose where it's fixed?

“If you own the vehicle outright, you might be able to get the check made out to you from the insurance company, though the key word here is “”might.””
Because it’s the other person’s insurance company paying for the damages through the driver’s
liability insurance
, you have abide by their policies. You may want to call the other driver’s insurance company to see what they can do. In most cases, they’ll make the check out straight to the repair shop, but if you’re a keen negotiator, they may be able to work with you.”
