If you notice your Mazda key fob isn’t working properly, it probably means you need to change the key battery. Cold temperatures can drain your key fob battery (the same way they can drain your phone battery), so it’s best to store your spare key fobs inside.
Mazda key fobs take CR2025 batteries, which you can buy at most stores right off the shelf. You’ll also need a small flathead screwdriver to help you open the key fob itself.
To change the key battery yourself, follow these steps:
Start by pressing the tiny button on the back of your key fob, just below the silver keyring
Remove the emergency key (which should loosen when you press the button)
Insert your flathead screwdriver into the slot from which you pulled out the emergency key
Gently twist and press the screwdriver until the key fob separates into two halves
Remove the rubber battery cover and the old battery
Insert your new CR2025 battery and replace the rubbery battery cover
Gently snap the two halves of your key fob back together
Reinsert your emergency key
That’s it! Make sure to test the fob—it should be working correctly again at this point.
