How strong are car windows?

Are car windows strong? I read somewhere that they’re stronger than steel, which doesn’t seem true to me.

, it will take about 20,000 to 24,000 pounds per square inch (PSI) of force to break a car window. For reference, typical glass has a breaking point of 1,000 PSI. That’s because car windows are made from tempered glass, which is stronger, more heat-resistant, and won’t break into sharp, jagged pieces like regular glass.

You could say that car windows and windshields are five times stronger than steel, since a flawless fiber of glass pulled lengthwise will be much stronger than a comparable piece of steel. However, glass is much more brittle than steel, which is why it breaks so easily.
