How much weight should a Pinewood Derby car have?
If I’m making a Pinewood Derby car, how much weight should it have? I’m making one with my son, and I’m getting weirdly competitive about it.

It’s great that you’re helping your son make his Pinewood Derby car! You’ll need to check with your troop for an exact weight limit, but most leaders will set a five ounces. However, the wood, wheels, and axles will typically weigh just 1.5 ounces to 3.5 ounces, so you’ll need to add between 1.5 and 3.5 ounces of extra
weight
if you want to hit that maximum.It’s usually a good idea to hit the max weight allowed! This makes sure that you have gravity on your side. However, there is some disagreement in the Scout community as to the best placement of weight.
If you put the extra weight at the rear of your car about one inch from the axle, your car will have more potential energy. However, other people claim that you should place the weight at the front of your car since this will give you a head start at the beginning of the race.
