How much water do I need to wash a car?

I usually wash my car at home, but with California’s water restrictions, I’m not sure I should even try right now. How much water is usually needed to wash a car?

The average
at-home car wash
typically uses 100 gallons of water or more. But exactly how much water is needed to wash a car depends on the size of your vehicle as well as your water source.
Bigger cars will require a little more water to clean than smaller ones, and similarly, your garden hose will use more water than, say, a pressure washer. The average garden hose can dispense around 10 gallons of water per minute—but the good news is, buying an automatic shut-off nozzle for your hose can give you better control over your water usage, saving you up to 70 gallons of water per wash.
If you’re feeling the pressure of your

premium, it may be time to switch insurance plans. The good news is, saving on car insurance doesn’t have to be as tricky as saving on water—just download the
