How much money do electric car mechanics make?

I’ve been into fixing cars since I was young. My dad and I would spend every Sunday afternoon working on his classic cars in the garage, drinking hot Dr. Pepper, and listening to Led Zeppelin. I’ve been looking into becoming a mechanic, but I know electric vehicles are on the rise. Do you get paid more for knowing how to work on electric cars? What a fond memory! There’s nothing like Led Zeppelin to get you in the mood to work on your car.
And you’re right,
EVs
are more popular than ever before. Fortunately, becoming an electric car mechanic is a pretty straightforward process, from getting your certificate or degree, interning, and working with a dealer, repair shop, or auto manufacturer. Here’s what we know about how much electric car mechanics make:
  • The average hourly rate of a car mechanic is $17.30 in the
    U.S.
  • The average hourly rate of plug-in hybrid and EV mechanics is $24.42 an hour. Many receive a commission based on the rate billed to the consumer.
