I'm a 23-year-old motorcyclist who needs to add coverage to his bike. Do I need liability only, or should I get collision and comprehensive insurance?

“Motorcycles are inherently more dangerous to drive, even if you’re a great rider. Other motorists don’t pay attention and you’re the one in harm’s way.

Plus, motorcyclists are much more likely to spend an extended period of time in the hospital, so it’s important to have enough coverage to avoid financial stress.

You might want to consider higher levels of

liability insurance

than the state minimum. Most motorcyclists opt for at least 100/300/100, which pays for damage to the other motorist in an accident. It covers:

$100,000 in bodily injury liability per person

$300,000 in bodily injury liability per accident

$100,000 in property damage liability per accident

You may also want to include

uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage

to protect yourself in case the other driver doesn’t have any or enough insurance. “
