Switching to an EV is a big deal and it’s good to do research beforehand. The cost of electricity yearly depends on how much you charge your vehicle and the price of electricity in your region. On average in the US, the annual cost could be anywhere from $400 to $800.
The average EV is about 30kWh/100 miles and if you drive 50 miles, five days a week, 48 weeks a year. After adding about 3,060 miles for extra car usage, that’s 15,310 miles or 4,593kWh needed to power your vehicle. On average the cost per kWh in the US is $0.14 cents which would put you at a total of $643 for the year.
For regions where electricity is cheap the price for the same vehicle and same lifestyle will be much less than in a region where electricity is more pricey. If you’re unsure about how much you’ll be paying, choose an EV you’re looking at, consider your lifestyle/approximate usage and calculate based on the price of energy for your region.
If you don’t want to install a higher-level charger in your home you don’t need to. Like a gas-powered car goes to the gas station, you can just recharge at power stations and use the charger that plugs into the regular outlet when you need to.
Feel like you’re paying too much for your car insurance
