How much does it cost to replace front calipers?
My mechanic recently told me that I need to replace the front calipers in my car. I don’t even know what those are but he told me that it was going to be almost $400 to do. I kind of think he might be overcharging me. What does it usually cost to replace front calipers?

Good question! How much it costs to replace front calipers varies pretty widely depending on a few factors. For front calipers, average prices are between $80 and $120 each. So, that could be anything from $160 to $240 for both front calipers. But that’s just for the parts—you’ll also have to pay for time/labor.
Every mechanic has their own hourly rate that they set. Most charge somewhere between $80 and $150 per hour. Since replacing calipers does take a bit of time, it seems likely the job would require at least two work hours of labor. Considering all that, it doesn’t sound like the price he quoted was unreasonable—but it is on the higher end of average.
