How much does it cost to replace blown car speakers?

Last weekend I blew out the speakers in my Honda Civic. I was hanging out in the park with some friends when my favorite Wu-Tang Clan tune came on. I turned up my radio and well—you likely can figure out the rest. How much is this mistake going to cost me?

Hey, it can happen. When you’re listening to a good track, cranking up your system always seems like a good idea.
Large retailers typically charge about $65 + speaker cost to install one speaker, so your price will depend upon the quality of your
sound system
and the extent of the damage. If you’re handy, you may be able to save that installation fee and replace the blown speaker yourself.
Before you run down to a
repair shop
, try these DIY tips:
  • Check your sound system controls. If sound is still coming out of your speakers, there’s a small chance that you’ve thrown off your equalizer controls. Check your bass and treble settings.
  • Use an electric meter to check your speaker. First, disconnect the speaker you think is blown from the amplifier. Then hook up a multimeter to the speaker’s terminals to see whether its resistance (ohms) is within a normal range.
If the speaker’s ohm reading is normal, the speaker is working and you may have another problem with your car’s sound system.
