The day your engine fails is never fun, and brings with it the difficult choice of whether to replace it or buy a new vehicle outright.
Costs will depend on the engine, the body shop, and if you buy a used, refurbished, or new engine.
If you decide to go with a new engine, you’ll be looking at spending at least $4,000, but that price will increase with more complex engines and more luxurious vehicles.
A used engine, on the other hand, can range from anywhere between $400 and $700but may vary depending on the age of the engine and the number of miles it has driven.
Keep in mind that used engines come with the risk of finding out the engine doesn’t work after paying for its installation.
You can minimize the risks associated with a used engine by opting for a rebuilt engine, but you’ll be looking at prices in the $2,500 range.
