How much does it cost to fix car paint scratches?
Last night, I parked by our trash cans and we had some pretty strong winds that knocked them into my car. Now, I have all these scratches along the passenger side of my car. They aren’t big, but I would love to get rid of them. How much will it cost to fix the scratches in my car’s paint?

car’s paint was scratched
; that’s always a bummer. Luckily, it could cost you as little as $100 to have those scratches professionally repaired. If those scratches were more severe, you could have been faced with upwards of a $400 bill!To get a clearer price estimate, you should bring your car to an auto repair shop and have the technicians there assess the severity of the scratches. Once they have, you will receive an accurate price quote.
Alternatively, you may want to try and fix very minor paint scratches on your own. This process will almost certainly cost less than $100 but will require some time, a little bit of effort, and the following supplies:
- A bucket
- Car washing soap
- A sponge or cloth
- A hose with a spray nozzle
- Microfiber cloths
- Whitening toothpaste
- Car polish
Once you have these items, follow these steps to fix the scratches in your car’s paint:
Step one: Wash and dry your car thoroughly to see the scratches much clearer.
Step two: Use a clean, damp cloth to apply the toothpaste to the scratches in a circular motion. The very small grit of the toothpaste will begin to buff out small scratches.
Step three: Wash the toothpaste away and dry the area.
Step four: Polish your car.
If any scratches remain, it means that they were too deep for the toothpaste to buff and should be handled with touch-up paint or by a professional.
