How much does a new school bus cost?
I live in a tiny town in Northern California and my kids’ school district is considering purchasing a school bus. They want to buy used, but I figure, what’s the harm in buying something new that will last longer? How much does a new bus cost, anyway?

Buying a school bus is a great idea—especially in smaller towns where residents tend to have longer commutes to school.
A new full-sized diesel school bus costs around $200,000-$220,000. You’ll pay less for a smaller bus.
But with rising diesel prices and climate concerns, some school districts are starting to invest in electric school buses which range from $300,000-$400,000 but come with a hefty tax break (upwards of $100,000). Plus, you can save hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in fuel costs when you opt for electric.
