To be specific, 21,529,464 Beetles were made. The Beetle was in production in various shapes and forms for 65 years. In 2003, declining demand shut down production of the original style. The New Beetle and the Beetle (A5) were produced until 2019, when all Beetle production ceased.
The VW Beetle gets good safety ratings, but it costs more to insure than many other vehicles in its class.
