How many modules are in the defensive driving course?
I want to take a defensive driving course to lower my car insurance premium. I’ve never taken one of these classes before, so I know little about the length of the program or what’s included. How many modules are typically in a defensive driving class?

The number of modules in a defensive driving course varies depending on where you take your program. Because most programs only require approval from the state, they can have as many modules as they deem fit. However, many defensive driving courses break their classes up into six modules, while some have as many as 12 modules.
As an example, a six-module course would contain chapters such as:
- Defensive driving
- Responsible andsafe driving
- The dynamics and science of a crash
- Driver safety tips
- Condition of the driver
- Prevention of DWI or DUI
Every module usually ends with a few practice questions followed by an exam so you understand the material and subject matter.
