How many mistakes are allowed on a driving test in Oregon?

I’m getting ready to take my driving test here in Oregon, and my dad keeps telling me I can’t make any mistakes at all if I hope to pass. Is that true, or can I make a few minor mistakes and still pass?

Driving tests are tough enough on their own, but worrying about how many mistakes are allowed on a driving test in
Oregon
can make a new driver nervous. While our parents are often right about a lot of things, your dad is mistaken on this one—you do not have to get a perfect score on the Oregon driving test to pass it.
Drivers begin their Oregon driving test with 100 points, and your examiner will deduct points if they observe mistakes. Up to 24 points can be deducted before you fail your test. In other words, you must score a 76 or better to pass your test.
There are a few mistakes that will result in automatic failure, though, including:
  • Getting into an accident
  • Refusing to perform any element of the test
  • Performing any illegal action
  • Dangerous or reckless driving
Before you can take your driving test, you’ll need to be sure you’re set up with at least
liability coverage
in case the worst happens and you wind up in an accident. You don’t need to take time away from your practice, though, Just let
