How many Ford GT40 Mk1 were made?
I just heard about how an original Ford GT40 Mk1 was sold at auction a few years ago—it must feel amazing as a car collector to own a piece of history like that. There can’t be too many more of them out there. How many were made in total?

Ford
made 31 units of the Ford GT40 Mk1 in the 1960s. This is partly because it needed at least 25 units of the racing car to be able to race in the GT class of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France. The GT40 Mk2 won that race in 1966, making it all the more iconic.The process of designing, building, and racing the original GT40 was dramatized in the 2019 movie Ford vs Ferrari.
The
GT40 that raced and won at Le Mans
now belongs to a collector named Rob Kauffman who lives in North Carolina.The model that was auctioned in 2016 was one of seven that were originally used for promotional purposes at dealerships. Its V8 engine is capable of 390 horsepower. It was fully restored in 2009, down to the original Azure Blue color, and had just over 3,000 miles at the time of sale. It sold for a breezy $3.3 million, which is just over eight times the cost of the new Ford GT that debuted in 2016.
