. In 2016, 773,600 electric cars were sold worldwide, in the U.S. alone there were 159,139 sold.When you’re looking for a vehicle, electric is a great solution, one that’s becoming more popular and widespread with every passing year.
The 2016 EV sales numbers break down like this:
- Worldwide: There was a 42% jump in electric vehicle sales from 2015.
- Worldwide: 773,600 electric vehicles were sold in 2016.
- United States: 159,139 of those were sold in the United States.
- Roughly 20% of the world’s total electric vehicles sold were in the U.S.
The majority of electric vehicles sold in the states were sold in California. However, although no one was surprised that California took the gold in most electric vehicles sold, there are more than a dozen states that are breaking records for electric vehicle sales all the time.
