How many cylinders does a Mazda 6 have?

I’m interested in getting a new Mazda 6, but I also want to get a V6 if possible. How many cylinders are under the hood of the Mazda 6?

The number of cylinders in a
Mazda 6
depends on the model year and what engine lies under the hood. From 2002 to 2013, the Mazda 6 came with either an inline-four-cylinder engine or a V6—so you could potentially have either four or six cylinders under the hood. However, all Mazda 6 models made from 2014 to 2021 have only four cylinders under the hood, although new technology allows this engine to churn out between 187 and 227 horsepower.
If you get a V6 Mazda 6, the amount of
horsepower and torque
varies depending on the model year:
  • 2003 to 2005: 220 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque
  • 2006 to 2008: 212 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque
  • 2009 to 2013: 272 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque
Any four-cylinder versions made before 2014 will have far less horsepower and torque than the V6, but 2014 engines onward provide a great mix of power and fuel economy. Just make sure to keep up on your
car maintenance schedule
and
car insurance
comparison shopping to make get the most out of an older model.
