How many cylinders does a Jeep Wrangler have?
My family is sizing up to an SUV, but we’re planning on doing some heavy off-roading and want a lot of power in the engine to back that up. How many cylinders does a Jeep Wrangler have?

A new Wrangler sounds like just the ticket for some family off-roading! The 2023 Jeep Wrangler comes with either four, six, or eight cylinders, so you certainly won’t have a lack of power in this classic off-roader.
Here are the five Wrangler engine options you can currently choose from if you buy new:
- 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine—285 horsepower, 260 lb-ft of torque
- 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine—270 horsepower, 295 lb-ft of torque
- PHEV with 2.0-liter I-4 turbo engine—375 horsepower, 470 lb-ft of torque
- 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine—470 horsepower, 470 lb-ft of torque
- 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine—260 horsepower, 442 lb-ft of torque
Note that the V8 is only available in the four-door, automatic
Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
and the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain is only available in the four-door, automatic Rubicon and Sahara
. Both the turbocharged four-cylinder and EcoDiesel V6 are only available with an automatic transmission, as well, and the diesel V6 can only be equipped with the four-door body style. If you choose to go for an older, used Jeep Wrangler, your engine options will vary, too. Generally, you can expect four- and six-cylinder engine options in most Wrangler models to date—with eight cylinders appearing in the latest generation from 2018 to the present.
