How many cylinders does a Honda Pilot have?
I’ve been reading up on the Honda Pilot. I thought it has six cylinders, but I’ve read that some model years have four—I’m so confused! How many cylinders does the Honda Pilot actually have?

Engine specs can get confusing, especially when models come out with more than one engine option. Since the Honda Pilot debuted back in 2003, it has always had a six-cylinder engine. That being said, the engines have changed over the years. Horsepower has gone from 240 hp (for 2003-2004 models) to 280 hp (with the 2022 Pilot).
Six-cylinder engines are generally strong enough for SUVs like the Pilot, though you might want something more powerful if you plan on doing a lot of intense off-roading or hauling heavy equipment, boats, or other vehicles.
In 2006, Honda began featuring its Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system. This increases fuel economy and helps control noise by deactivating up to three of the cylinders as needed. However, so many drivers complained about reduced fuel economy, engine misfires, and more, that earned Honda a class action lawsuit and stopped putting this in its cars.
