How many car insurance claims go to court in the UK?
Help me settle a bet. My buddy says he's sure that a large majority of car insurance claims go all the way to the courtroom before they're settled here in the UK. I say he's crazy. How many car insurance claims go to court in the UK?

The vast majority of car accident claims in the United Kingdom are settled out of court. Most of the time, this is because one or both of the following conditions apply to the claim:
- It’s already clear who was at fault for the accident
- It’s not worthwhile for the other party to spend time and money on a court case
Around 1% of personal injury claims make it to the courts. Of those, only a small portion are car accident claims. Plus, even if a trial date is set, many of these are still settled outside the courtroom.
