How many BMW 850i were made?

I’m looking into buying a used BMW, and one of my friends told me that I should try to find a 850i, as they’re kind of rare. But it’s hard to tell for sure, as BMW’s naming conventions are pretty confusing. Do you know how many BMW 850i were made?

You’re correct in noting the vague nature of BMW’s naming habits, and as such it’s challenging to find data on how many
BMW
850i were made. We can tell you that around 20,000 units were made between the 850i and the 850 Ci, but where the division lies is difficult to tease out.
Here’s the deal: the BMW 850i was a 12-cylinder, 300-horsepower model that was produced in the late 80s and early 90s. It’s frequently confused (or sometimes used interchangeably) with the BMW 850 Ci, which appears to be the later version of the 850i.
To make matters more complicated, there’s also a version called the 850 CSi that frequently gets thrown into the mix as well.
At any rate, they were some of the most advanced cars on the road at the time in terms of power and performance. Many auto enthusiasts consider them collector’s items, and a used one will generally cost you about $30,000 today. Since the first model rolled off the line in 1990, it might qualify for
