How many 1955 Chevrolets were made?

I love old cars, and I’ve always dreamed of restoring a classic of my own. I’ve got my eyes out for a 1955 Chevy, but I was wondering, how many models Chevy actually built that year?

You’ve picked a great year to focus on when it comes to restoring a classic
Chevrolet
. 1955 was the first year of what car enthusiasts now refer to as the Tri-Five Chevy production run, and it was a massive success. All told, Chevrolet manufactured approximately 1.8 million 150s, 250s, and Bel Airs in 1955.
For 1955, you’ll be looking at 17 Tri-Five variants. The most popular 1955 Chevy model was the four-door Bel Air—Chevy manufactured about 366,000 of these, so it will likely be the easiest (though certainly not the cheapest) for you to find. The four-door 210 is your next go-to with just over 340,000 in production.
If you’re looking for rarity, you’ll want to return to the Bel Air, but it’s the four-door Nomad Wagon that takes the cake here. GM only built 8,530 of these
classic cars
, so you’ll likely have more difficulty finding one.
Since you’re looking at a model to fix up, you’ll likely be able to find one that’s fairly affordable—especially if you stick with the more popular models. Remember, we said fairly affordable—even a trashed 1955 Bel Air will likely set you back several thousand. If you’re looking for that rare-bird Nomad, plan to drop at least $60k.
