as a “look-back period” or “washout period.” During this time, if you receive another conviction, your penalties will be much more severe. After the look-back period is over, any subsequent charges will be penalized separately from the original DUI conviction. Unfortunately, a DUI will remain on your criminal record forever, without much chance of expungement. There are some exceptions to this; however, they are few and far between. In most cases, expungement is only a possibility when the driver can prove a wrongful conviction.
