How long does a car battery last in Illinois?

I took a new job in Illinois, and I’m fairly excited about it! However, I have the overwhelming urge to organize everything—especially my budget. Since I’m going to have a car, I want to put together a car ownership budget. But how long should I expect a car battery to last in the state?

Illinois has some major changes in climate and temperature from north to south that can impact the life of a
car battery
. In general, a car battery will last between three and five years in the Land of Lincoln**.
Heat tends to lower the life span of a car battery more than cold, but both can reduce a battery’s useful life if you leave your car to the elements. As a rule of thumb, you should keep your car out of extreme weather by leaving it in a garage. If that’s not possible, try to park in the shade in the summer and keep your car engine compartment clean in the winter.
And since you’re making a checklist and a budget, remember to add
Illinois car insurance
to your to-do list!
