How long do points stay on your license in Michigan?
I just got a ticket for careless driving, and I received three points on my license. I’m worried about accumulating too many points or having the ticket increase my car insurance. How long will these points stay on my license if I live in Michigan?

, penalty points stay on your license for two years after a guilty plea or conviction.But unlike some other states, Michigan doesn’t allow you to remove points or expedite the process by taking a defensive driving class or another driving course.
However, the Michigan Secretary of State (SOS), known also as the DMV, sends out a warning letter when you accumulate four points and another warning if you get eight points. This letter will inform you of the need for safe driving and its importance to yourself and other motorists.
Once you accumulate 12 points, the SOS will suspend your license for a period of time determined by a judge. While you can appeal the suspension within 14 days of notice, the likelihood of the suspension being overturned is slim.
