How long do I need to keep car insurance records?

I've read that it's always good to keep all of your car insurance records, just like taxes. How long should I keep them?

“Unlike tax records, which you need to keep for seven years, most insurance companies state that you only need to retain your
car insurance
records for one year.
Due to state regulations, insurance providers must keep the past six years of insurance records for each policy holder. If for some reason you need a copy of a previous declaration page, you can request it from your insurance company at any time.
Some documents you should hold onto longer, though.
Some states have an annual personal property tax on vehicles. In this case, you will want to keep the tax information for the standard seven-year period.
If you
file a claim
, you may want to hold your records a bit longer, especially if you’re planning on selling the car to a private party.
If you want a secure place to store you insurance information, try the
Jerry
app. Jerry’s cloud-based storage solution securely holds your information. Jerry also automatically compares your insurance rates every six months to ensure your getting the best deal. And the best part–Jerry does this for free.”
