How long do home insurance claims stay on your record?
I recently purchased a new home and need an updated home insurance policy. The policy for my new house is a lot more expensive than the policy for my old house. I think it might be because I made a few claims in the past. How long should I expect the claims to affect my home insurance for?

claims will stay on your record for five to seven years. While your claim history has a significant impact on your home insurance rate, insurers also look at:
- Location
- Replacement cost
- Credit history
- Marital status
- Age of the house
- Deductible
To ensure you’re paying the lowest rate for the coverage you need, even with claims on your record, shop around. Every insurer rates policies differently. While your current company increased your rate with your new home, it doesn’t mean every provider will give you the same rate.
