Keep in mind that you cannot turn right on a red light, green arrows allow you to proceed through an intersection but not turn left or right, parking can be a challenge, and the signs are in French.
That’s right—you cannot turn right on a red light in Montreal. This is meant to protect pedestrians who have a tendency to walk where they please, when they please (consider yourself warned!). At some intersections, you’ll see a green arrow, which allows you to proceed straight—you’ll only be able to turn once the green arrow has turned into a full green light.
There are lots and metered parking in downtown Montreal and some street parking available. But beware of permit spots, marked with a small red square on the bottom right corner of the sign with an arrow pointing to the area designated for permit parkers—just park in the spots where the arrows do not point.
