Well, we here at Jerry do know all about how cold Jacksonville Florida can get, so we’re glad you’re escaping the wintry Northeast (of Florida) for balmier climes in Tampa—that road trip will take you about three hours and ten minutes, covering 200 miles along US-301 S and I-75 S.
Of course, you’ll want to make a quick stop at Ocala National Forest on your way south. This federally protected area lies just east of I-75 and is known for its sand pine scrub forest, hundreds of lakes and ponds, and lots of hiking areas.
If you hate nature and are looking to pass through Orlando and its theme parks instead, take I-95 S until you get to I-4, and go west, which will take you right through Orlando on your way to Tampa. This route is a bit longer at 224 miles, and will take you around 3 hours and 45 minutes—that’s if you don’t make a stop for some roller coaster time.
Whichever route south you take, make sure your caravan is protected with a robust car insurance
