How far is it driving from Denver to Aspen?
My husband and I are heading to Colorado for a little vacation this summer. We’re planning on renting a car to do some sight-seeing, and I was wondering if it might be worth it driving from Denver to Aspen—how far is that drive? Is it scenic?

is an excellent choice for some nature bathing this summer! The drive from Denver
to Aspen
is certainly doable, too—it’s about 198 miles, which translates to around four to five hours in the car depending on how many stops you make. That said, it is known to be stunningly scenic no matter which route you take. Here are the two most common drives:
- Leadville Route via Highway 82 and Independence Pass—this is only open during summer, and takes you up high over the Continental Divide for some exquisite mountain views
- Glenwood Springs Route via I-70 West—this is an easier drive that’s open year-round and offers an optional stop at the hot springs in Glenwood Springs
You can’t really go wrong with either path. From Idaho Springs to Mt. Evans, Vail, or Twin Lakes—the trip from Denver to Aspen is an adventure in itself.
